New Student Orientation

Starting your Bachelor of Education? Register for New Student Orientation, a tradition 20 years strong!

Concurrent student starting your EDUC 400s this year? Join us for our Faculty Orientation Session on Friday, September 1st, at 10.00am! So that we can best plan our session, please indicate your intent to attend via our registration survey.

Audience Note: The full New Student Orientation event is intended for newly-admitted students, while the Faculty Session is open to both newly-admitted students and Concurrents entering the 400s. We invite all students attending the Faculty Session to fill out our brief survey about your questions for us during orientation!

Student Opportunities Fair

When: Tuesday, September 5th, 10.00am - 2.00pm

Where: Doucette Library - 3rd Floor of the Education Block (Map)

What: Join us at the annual Werklund Student Opportunities Fair! Undergraduate students in the BEd program can learn more about programs and placements from our community partners and Werklund opportunities.

Audience Note: This event is intended for all Bachelor of Education students, whether you are in a non-Education or EDUC term! We invite our faculty, instructors, and staff to attend, too!

Gotcha!

When: Tuesday, September 5th to Friday, September 8th

What: Join your fellow pre-service teachers in a challenge of wits, perseverance, and gotcha! Your goals, if you choose to accept them, are:

  • Hang on to your popsicle stick for as long as you can
  • Covertly identify other players in the game
  • Catch your BEd colleagues with their popsicle sticks down

Keep your original stick and collect the largest number of others’ popsicle sticks for your chance to win a Werklund prize!

Career Mixer: Career Resources for Final Year Pre-Service Teachers

When: Wednesday, September 6th, 12.00 - 12.30pm

Where: EDT 202 (Map)

What: Chat with your Field Experience and Career Team about career resources available to you, as well as important timeline information around teacher certification for your journey as a final year pre-service teacher!

Audience Note: This event is intended for students enrolled in their EDUC 500s.

InstructorU Fair *CANCELLED*

Unfortunately, due to illness, we have had to cancel this event. Please join us at the Field Meet'n'Greet next week!

When: Thursday, September 7th - Pick Session A (10.00 - 11.00am) or Session B (12.00 - 1.00pm)

What: Werklund undergraduate faculty and instructors are invited to this year's InstructorU event, a mini-conference with our Program Specialists and Facilitators! Sessions include:

Field with Jane and Aggie: Meet the Field Experience and Career Advising Team! We are very lucky to assist students as they prepare for Field Experience and moving into the teaching profession. We would love to share some of the top tips that we offer our amazing Bachelor of Education students! Along with a quick overview of what we do and the resources available to our students, we see this as a great way connect and answer questions!

Experiential Learning with Caitlin: Join our very enthusiastic Experiential Learning Facilitator to learn about the unique opportunities offered to our students! Find out how instructors can support students by understanding and recommending optional programs to further develop pre-service teachers’ skillsets. Session outcomes include learning what kind of opportunities are available, knowing how to access resources to support student goals, and getting excited about Experiential Learning!

Kirsten, our Senior Program and Policy Specialist, will also be available to answer any advising questions that arise during these amazing sessions!

Audience Note: This event is only open to Bachelor of Education instructors and faculty.

Self-Guided Land-Based Learning Walks

When: Friday, September 8th - See Details Below

Where: EDT 230 (Map)

What: End your first week with a self-guided Land-Based Learning walk around campus. Walk details will be available in EDT 230. For students interested in connecting with their Education peers, walk meet-ups will also leave from our office (EDT 230) at 10.00am, 11.00am, and 1.00pm.

Werklund Fall BBQ

When: Tuesday, September 12th, 12.00 - 1.30pm

Where: EDC South Patio (Outside the Link - Map)

What: Event and RSVP details will be sent to your UCalgary.ca email!

Audience Note: This event is intended for all Werklund School of Education students, staff, and faculty! The BBQ is by registration, and ticketed. Food will be available for the first 500 registrants. Refer to your email for registration and ticket distribution information.

Paint and Learn Series

When: Wednesday, September 13th

Where: EDC 374 (Map)

What: Just starting your Four-Year or Concurrent degree? Join us for one of our Paint and Learns, where we'll provide the materials, you paint anything you like, and we chat about your program!

Field Meet'n'Greet

When: Thursday, September 14th, 11.30am - 1.00pm

Where: EDT 202 (Map)

What: All pre-service teachers participating in Field Experience this year are invited to our Field Meet'n'Greet with the Field Experience Directors, Advising Team, instructors, and the Education Students’ Association. Come out and learn more about the #fieldselfcarestreak and Field Experience!

Audience Note: This event is intended for Bachelor of Education students enrolled in EDUC 440, 465, 540, or 560 this academic year.

Scavenger Hunt

When: Tuesday, September 5th - Friday, September 15th

What: Join us on a Scavenger Hunt! Collect at least 8 points, and submit your findings to upecareer@ucalgary.ca by September 15th for a prize!
